Reinhold Rieckmann »Thought and Form«

March 2017 – August 2017

Special exhibition

On the occasion of his 75th birthday, the exhibition shows 58 individual pieces from the 60-year career of the Hamburg-born ceramic artist Reinhold Rieckmann (*1942).

The selection of objects provides insights into Rieckmann's diverse and varied work, from austere vase objects to individual vessel ceramics to large sculptures that resemble architectural monuments. These offer a large scope for interpretation of the diverse themes that are symbolically hidden behind Rieckmann's formal language.

With his ceramics, he repeatedly devotes himself to general human themes as well as concrete socially critical questions and political topics, such as power, dictatorship, violence and imprisonment. The artist's numerous experiments with form, color and glaze, which make his comprehensive work so striking and individual, are just as diverse.

The accompanying catalogue for the exhibition is available for 5 euros.
